Sustainable finance initiatives and overview

Montréal, world-class
financial center in
sustainable finance

Sustainable finance:

fundamental to Quebec's flourishing financial industry

Finance Montréal’s ambition is to make sustainable finance a key element in developing and showcasing Quebec’s financial industry. Our activities consist of bringing together players from Montréal and Quebec’s financial centers, committed to finance that addresses environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, while ensuring positive impacts for the economy and communities.

Portrait of Geneviève Morin

"When the economy must transform out of necessity, finance must also change. Montréal and Quebec have what it takes to be leaders among the major international financial centers at the forefront of sustainable finance."

Geneviève Morin

CEO of Fondaction
Chair of the Sustainable Finance Committee

To do so, our activities translate into concrete actions aimed specifically at differentiating the province by the depth of its expertise in sustainable finance, strengthening collaborations between actors in Quebec’s ESG ecosystem and building on Montréal's international profile as a leading financial center in this area.

Strategic activities

Our different strategic activities help strengthen Quebec’s position and promote collaboration in the local and international sustainable finance ecosystems:

Promotion and awareness

Education and capacity-building

Pan-Canadian and international cooperation

International missions and hosting of foreign delegations

Strategic alliances
and collaborations

The UNDP-hosted Financial Centers for Sustainability (FC4S) network is a collective of 39 financial centers working together to achieve the objectives set by the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement. Through national and regional initiatives, the FC4S Secretariat works with members to achieve this objective by providing the tools and insights to measure progress, engage local institutions and inform policy, including research on emerging issues, guidance on best practices, and strategic advice and support services.
