United for Sustainability: The Call of the Quebec Financial Sector
In a world increasingly faced with pressing environmental and social challenges, the role of the financial sector in shaping our common future has never been more critical.
We, the signatories of the Statement by the Quebec Financial Centre for Sustainable Finance, affirm our unwavering commitment to a future where finance and sustainability are inextricably linked. As COP28 concludes, we aim to take an additional step forward: advancing the collective use of the standards set by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) as a global baseline for sustainability reporting, including climate-related issues.
This initiative goes beyond merely responding to a trend; it symbolizes our commitment to transparency, accountability, and the transformation already underway in our sector. By raising awareness among businesses about the ISSB's reporting standards, while respecting the specificities of each organization, we will foster a unified and integrated approach that considers both financial aspects and the overall environmental and social impact.
The ISSB standards provide a robust starting framework for disclosing relevant information about risks and opportunities related to sustainability, essential for guiding the financial sector towards informed investment decisions. They are the cornerstone of truly sustainable finance, calling for the establishment of a market infrastructure that enables consistent and comparable climate disclosures on a global scale.
Our initiative has international reach and resonance. It echoes the recent announcement by the IFRS Foundation during the Finance Day at COP28, where nearly 400 organizations committed to advancing the adoption of the ISSB standards.
Our approach is part of a broader commitment to sustainable finance, as evidenced by our Statement and our ongoing efforts to establish Quebec's financial sector as a centre of excellence and innovation in sustainable finance in North America.

We are confident that, through this initiative, we can pave the way towards a sustainable and resilient future for all.
